The Future of the Reformed Church in Switzerland

organized by

  • the Centre for Church Development (ZKE)

and the Faculty of Theology of the University of Geneva:

  • Institute for Systematic and Ethics (IRSE)
  • and the Lemanic Institute of Practical Theology (ILTP)

In cooperation with

Swiss Theological Society (SThG)

Five hundred years after the beginning of the Reformation, the Reformed Church in Switzerland is still a venerable and life-relevant institution that offers many people a spiritual and intellectual home. It is still standing, but is it also moving? Its existence and continued presence are not a matter of course. Its reputation has suffered and the outlook for the coming years is challenging. It is not only the loss of members that is forcing it and those in positions of responsibility within it to rethink their place and their public responsibility. What might the future of the Reformed Church in Switzerland look like?

This conference does not want to and cannot predict it. But all the more possible ways for the Reformed Church are to be explored on a sound theological basis – so that it can make recognisable contributions to making the gospel shine again and be convincingly lived in a torn world.
